Paradisiacal Beaches in Buzios

Wednesday, January 14, 2026

"Welcome to paradise!" Our waiter greeted us warmly. Unanimously we flocked to the beach as the best way to spend our first day in paradise.

Praia João Fernandes, considered the best beach in Buzios, is the closest beach to where we are staying (a 10 min walk). Arriving before 10am, we rented chairs and umbrellas at Quiosque Dina's (with the music), and rooted ourselves down for the day. Note: You can walk another 5 minutes to the next beach, Praia João Fernandinho.  The water is a tad calmer in the protected cove but the crowds are the same. It is nice because it is shaded by big trees.

Thoroughly enjoying our day at Praia João Fernandes

The beaches in Buzios are narrow and crowded. They get even smaller during high tide.

There is a bar every 30 feet

Similar to beaches in Mexico (and other countries), vendors comb the beach offering their wares. The difference is that the tourists actually want them there and shop! You have your choice of coverups, bathing suits, hair braids, toys, corn, ice cream, açaí, grilled queso, hot delights, etc. A group of flipping performers came by - inspiring Lucas to perform a complimentary cartwheel into the water, drawing a round of applause, lol.

The vendors carry an entire clothing rack around the beach

"I can do another day of that," is a huge accolade from Greg, who doesn't like being in the sun. (So we spent another duplicate day there Friday.)

Logistics:
  • The cost of our beach chairs and umbrellas were Brazilian real R$150 per 2 chairs/umbrella. You could put the amount towards food but not towards drinks. You could also bring your own food and drink.
At Quiosque Dina’s, the Fritada Mista mixed fried seafood plate and fries were R$ 380 (USD $ 71).  We had to order 2 additional food dishes to cover the chair/umbrella rental.

  • The UV is 13 - it is really high here!
  • There are a lot of bugs. We all have itchy bites! We have to be very disciplined with our food in the kitchen to keep the ants and gnats at bay.
